Internet has a huge memory. Pictures, data and personal information will be stored, sold, duplicated and spread before you can utter the words “My data belongs to me”.
But what about the human right of data privacy?
At the WSIS+10 High-Level Event Peter A. Bruck, Chairman of the WSA, held a workshop on “Data Citizen Rights” and introduced the issue in the subsequent meetings of the UN consultation process leading up to the 2015 Review: “WSIS+10 needs to deal with the challenges posed by big data and global connected economy.
WSA started the initiative “My data belongs to me” in order to create a level playing field in the market of social media, cloud computing and internet of things. We need to go to a central starting point: unless someone asks for my permission and make transparent for what you use it, they cannot use my data.”
