President meets ICT creatives: WSA Global Congress kick off for smart island initiative
The World Summit Award and Youth Award Conference was inaugurated by no other than Sri Lankan President H.E. Mahinda Rajapaksa!

Having a little walk and talk: Sri Lankan
President Mahinda Rajapaksa (in the middle)
with World Summit Award Chairman Peter A.
Being escorted to the President’s Secretariat by around 50 traditional Sri Lankan dancers, it was truly a unique honor to have The Sri Lankan President Himself, H.E. Mahinda Rajapaksa, addressing the WSA network and winners at the Opening Inauguration.

“The power of ICT lies in the creation of valuable, relevant and localized digital content”, President Mahinda Rajapaksa affirmed, thereby embracing the WSA’s philosophy and again stating the importance of the WSA work.

Surf and spectacle: WSA Gala Evening stages best e-Content at Mount Lavinia Beach
The WSA in Sri Lanka: With the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA), we found a local partner who did an outstanding job creating an unforgettable Congress and an even more impressive Gala night. A private pageant, just for the WSA Gala, what a pleasure!

Traditional dancers led the way to the Gala Stage at Mount Lavinia
The location where the Gala was celebrated was located right next to the ocean
Something even the „Father of the Mobile Ringtone“ Ralph Simon does not see every day: the WSA network on its way to the stage, accompanied by… elephants!

Memorable, indeed: Some quotes from our network
3 days of stimulating talks, lively discussions and insightful thoughts about the ICT-world of tomorrow: The WSA audience again gained inspiration and knowledge in a tropical setting. We selected some memorable quotes from our network for you…

“Nobody knows everything about the Internet. Every time I am about 60 percent sure about the success of a project, I jump in. Things are constantly changing, so the best designs are those which evolve all the time.” (Janine Warner, WSA expert from USA)
“Winning ICT-projects have to promote participation and transparence.” (Alexander Felsenberg, WSA expert from Germany)
“Having an idea is the easiest part. Make it happen is the hard part.” (Ana Araujo, Founder of WSA winning project “Teckler” from Brazil)
“The future depends on you!” (Ralph Simon, WSA expert from UK/USA, addressing the WSA winners)

All the best from your WSA Team!
